At a press conference held earlier today, Park Theatre staff and local officials announced the re-opening of the historic Cranston venue. Officials also announced the first round of concerts that includes five events scheduled for the fall, with more to be added soon.
Media and members of the community welcomed Brandon Caron, Chief Operating Officer of Lexington, MA-based Spectacle Live, a leading regional concert and event management company. Caron spoke at the event along with Cranston Mayor Ken Hopkins and Venue Manager Sara Shevlin.
Caron expects the theatre to serve as an economic engine for the city. “Having a vibrant, bright, sustainable theatre is what allows the local communities, the local restaurant and bars to be able to hire staff and continue to grow,” said Caron.
Cranston Mayor Hopkins noted that Rolfe Square, where the theatre is located, serves as an arts hub for the city. “The Park Theatre is not just a venue,” he said. “It’s a symbol of hope, resilience, and the transformative power of the arts. By continuing to support the historic Park Theatre, we are investing in the future of our great city.” Hopkins promised support for the theatre as it returns to full operation, including providing parking behind Cranston City Hall, adding exterior lighting, and support from public safety officials.
I think the Park is a real great anchor for this area,” said City Council member Nicole Renzuli-Martins. “As a member of the city council, I spend a lot of time in Rolfe Square and in other economic corridors in Cranston. A lot of businesses are interested in partnering with the theatre, a lot of restaurants would love to have ‘dinner and a show’ type deals to bring in business. I hope the city council and the Mayor can work together with the venue to encourage economic development.”
Venue manager Sara Shevlin noted that members of the community regularly share fond memories of going to the Park over the years. She is in the process of hiring staff and expects to work with community organizations to enhance programming in the future.
