Teacher’s name

Danika Hallam

How do you know the teacher?

I tutor English as part of the East Providence Library’s tutoring program. I always reach out to the student’s teacher in an effort to collaborate. Danika Hallam is the only teacher who responded with enthusiasm, shared her teaching materials, and reached out periodically to encourage me and the student. She is caring and generous with her time.

What does this person teach?

She teaches ninth and twelfth grade English.

Why do you believe the teacher should be recognized or honored?

During the quarter when Danika Hallam collaborated with me on identifying the student’s strengths and weaknesses and how best to support him, his quarter grades rose from a D to a B. She consistently stayed in touch with me —even sometimes answering my emails on the weekend— and she praised the student for his hard work and made note of his ability to succeed. I have a Ph. D. and can attest that she knows her subject matter, but equally importantly she shares her love for English with her students and seeks to remediate any areas of weakness with which they come to her as a learner. Danika Hallam is all a teacher should be.

What’s one thing you want everyone to know about the teacher?

She views each student as an individual with strengths that can be built upon, and she tirelessly does so.
