Viral video shows woman saving animal during Waterfire Providence

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — A woman is being praised for jumping in to the Providence River to save the animal during Waterfire Providence.

The incident happened during Waterfire’s Fourth of July event on Thursday.

A video, that is now going viral, was posted on TikTok by user @emilyalisonswift.

“Girl rescues ferret, an epic series of events,” she wrote in the caption.

ABC 6 has reached out to confirm the identity of the animal.

Currently, the video has over 300,000 views and 60.5k views.

“Don’t care what the water looks like, if there is an animal in need, I am in! She is my hero! I hope she gets some local praise!” wrote one comment.

“That girl is a hero. She jumped in the Providence River,” wrote another.

The woman who jumped into the river has yet to be identified.

She was later helped onto a boat which is seen in the video.

A representative from Waterfire Providence said their volunteers are trained to perform water rescues from the river.
