Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns’ Almonte set to retire in 2024

Ernest Almonte, Executive Director of the Rhode Island League of Cities and Towns (RILCT), will retire on December 31, 2024, the organization announced today.

“It has been a true pleasure working with the leaders of all 39 cities and towns across Rhode Island,” said Ernest Almonte, Executive Director of the League. “Municipalities are on the front lines of every policy issue, working to ensure that their residents are provided top-notch services while also lessening the local property tax burden. I am proud of the work that we have accomplished together.”

Almonte was appointed as Executive Director of RILCT in 2019. During his tenure, he has helped the League advocate for reforms to the Law Officers Bill of Rights, negotiate improvements to legislation, and create a municipal leadership academy to provide training opportunities for city staff.

“On behalf of the entire board, we want to thank Ernie for his hard work and commitment to the League for the past two years. He has worked tirelessly to advocate on our behalf and ensure that we are on strong financial footing,” said League President Charles Lombardi, Mayor of North Providence. “Together we have successfully advocated for reforms to the Law Officers Bill of Rights, negotiated improvements to countless pieces of legislation and formed a municipal leadership academy to provide leadership training for staff.”

The RILCT Executive Committee will now determine the process to select a successor.
