PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) – CVS announced a $1 million grant to Women & Infants Hospital on Tuesday.

CVS said that the grant given to the hospital in Providence is to increase access to maternal health services.

CVS reported that the grant will support Women & Infants in expanding their workforce and opening a new postpartum mobile unit.

The additional staff will help in supporting the Postpartum Hypertension Equity Program according to CVS, which began in 2022.

The program offers patients with blood pressure cuffs and training to better understand when to seek medical attention, according to CVS.

CVS reported these services significantly reduce the number of patients returning for complications related to hypertension.

The mobile unit is reported by CVS to offer hypertension management, contraceptive counseling, mental health screening and breastfeeding support.

CVS stated that 80% of babies in the state of Rhode Island are delivered at Women & Infants Hospital.
