Under general supervision of Director Development, manages and maintains donor prospect identification and review process for Lifespan Development office. Provides research identification and analysis that guides cultivation and solicitation strategies for prospects in relationship to Lifespan and affiliate fundraising opportunities. Provides identification and evaluation of information on individual and related prospects. Conducts detailed research using advanced on-line databases, Internet resources, in-house files and data, library and other references. Develops written reports compiling and synthesizing information and oversees appropriate dissemination. Manages special projects as assigned by director or senior vice president such as reevaluation of HIPAA guidelines as applied to development; initiating, evaluating and implementing new IT vendor relationships, etc. Provides related user training in use of research tools to enable independent research by other department staff.Responsibilities:
Proactively identifies individuals as prospects for portfolio management and for future cultivation and solicitation. Develops and maintains ongoing communications to advance prospect information to appropriate development staff member(s).Strategize with gift officers and senior vice president to develop appropriate criteria for prospect identification and coordination, as well as tactics for cultivation and solicitation. Works with colleagues to ensure minimal amount of duplicate solicitation of major donors among all Lifespan subsidiaries. Identifies shared prospects with other Lifespan development staff and develops strategies to leverage and secure gifts to multiple partners as appropriate. Participates in multi-partner and system-wide fundraising opportunities and efforts as they are developed.Attends capital campaign, major gifts and annual fund committee meetings when appropriate, and whenever donors are being “rated” for giving capacity and affinity.Trains gift officers and associates in basic prospect protocols and search engine tools to establish local research capability at each affiliate development operation.Creates reports for key major gift prospects in response to requests from department staff.Provides analysis of financial and historical data in order to advise gift officers of potential donor inclination and capacity.Searches on-line databases (news, biographical, financial, business and foundation) for information. Extrapolates and verifies information; evaluates, organizes and edits data to import into department utilized software program.Constantly improves, updates and enhances information to donor files through reading and selecting applicable articles from local and national publications. Presents relevant information to appropriate development staff. Assists to maintain development database by ensuring individual and related records are updated when new information is uncovered in research process.Participates as member of team on the Lifespan Development strategic Leadership Group.Works with affiliate CEOs, senior management, physician leadership and clinical staff to discern organizational goals and priorities as they relate to prospect research/management fundraising strategies. Assists in securing funding primarily for capital and program needs of affiliates.Maintains effective relationships with affiliates and participates in appropriate committees/work groups related to development research and prospect engagement.Ensures fundraising research strategies are consistent with Lifespan and affiliate missions; works closely with appropriate Lifespan departments on collaborative efforts as appropriate.Participates in major gift training and ongoing educational opportunities to maintain and enhance knowledge of best practices in area of research, prospect and moves management, stewardship and recognition.Maintains and enhances proficiency in use of commercial databases, CD-ROM tools, Internet resources and internal systems. Assists in maintaining computer research systems and products, including contribution to upkeep of departmental website.Manages special projects as assigned by director or senior vice president such as reevaluation of HIPAA guidelines as applied to development; initiating, evaluating and implementing new information systems vendor relationships and the like.Participates in or leads various committees/teams related to fundraising research and prospect management.Maintains and enhances professional expertise by attending and participating in related educational opportunities, developing relationships with professional associations and colleagues as appropriate.Other information:
BASIC KNOWLEDGE:Bachelor’s degree in business administration, or related field.EXPERIENCE:Two years related experience developing and maintaining prospect research databases.Experience should demonstrate high level of effective oral and written communication skills, knowledge of variety of relational and on-line database management applications, exceptional organizational skills and strong computer and information management skills.Familiarity with data mining tool searches such as Wealth Engine, Blackbaud PIN, Kintera and Lexis-Nexis required.Ability to think strategically and manage multiple projects simultaneously required.Experience in health care preferred.Normal office environment.Lifespan is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer.
