Job description: Job Description:SUMMARY:Rhode Island Hospital’s Quality Improvement and Patient Safety department is committed to supporting all activities related to the development and execution of the Hospital’s Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) plan. The Quality Improvement Specialist reports to the Director of Quality and Patient Safety and plays a key role in this process by collaborating with leaders and staff at all levels to identify improvement opportunities, utilize data to understand and monitor quality, and develop targeted improvement plans. This includes creating or identifying performance metrics and data collection plans as needed, ensuring continuous performance improvement.As an internal consultant and facilitator, the Quality Improvement Specialist provides expertise in quality and accreditation standards, knowledge of performance improvement tools and methods and possesses a deep understanding of relevant quality data. This position works closely with clinical leaders to extract insights from various data sources, driving efficient and effective improvements in patient outcomes.REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:Bachelor’s Degree is required;Master’s degree in Public Health, Healthcare Administration, Business or a similar field is preferred.2+ years of relevant experience, preferably in healthcare management, operation analysis, or quality managementSelf-starter, independently seeking out and making use of available resources to develop new skills and subject matter expertise as neededStrong analytical and problem-solving skillsStrong data analysis and summarization skillsStrong leadership and negotiation skillsStrong group facilitation skillsStrong project management skillsExcellent communication skills, both presentation and writtenProficiency in process evaluation and improvement methods, including process mapping, value-stream mapping, root cause analysis, and failure modes and effects analysisProficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, Visio) requiredProficiency in using Microsoft Excel for data analysis, using pivot tables and Power Query, and creating graphs is required.Ability to work effectively in a complex and agile environment while remaining flexible and adaptableHigh-energy, high-impact, team-oriented professional that builds strong working relationshipsDemonstrates experience with EPIC, understanding of clinical workflows and processPRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:Collaborates with clinical leaders to effectively use quality data for outcome improvement. Identify and develop performance indicators, benchmark comparison groups, and recommend performance targets.Creates data monitoring and improvement plans, aggregates and presents data with performance insights, and supports the execution of improvement plans using the Plan-Do-Study-Act methodology.Facilitates small to mid-sized cross-functional teams in process evaluation, utilizes process mapping, brainstorming, root-cause analysis, failure modes and effects analysis, and other relevant process improvement tools/activities.Manages quality improvement workgroups and projects, developing project charters, metrics, timelines, and ensuring timely progress reports to executive sponsors.Develops and maintains deep expertise in both internal and external policies, standards, requirements, and data sets relative to the Hospital’s QAPI plan’s goals and objectives, serving as a quality domain subject matter expert within Rhode Island Hospital.Independently creates audience-appropriate summaries of relevant data sources, identify trends, highlight actions taken in response to performance, and analyze the effectiveness of those actions and contributing factors.Collaborates with IS and Analytics teams to enhance EHR-based clinical workflows, data collection, and analytics/reporting in support of quality and safety initiatives.Perform other related duties as assigned.WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:Work is performed in a typical office setting, requiring extensive periods of sitting, with arms extended as well as walking and standing.INDEPENDENT ACTION:Incumbent generally establishes own work plans and priorities, including the development and utilization of appropriate analytic strategies, methodologies, and activities to assure accurate, valid, and timely completion of work in conformance with organizational and department policies and practices.SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:None.BENEFITS:For qualifyingpositionswe offer:Competitive pay and paid time offMedical coverageDental coverageVision coverage401K matchEducation Assistance and ReimbursementWellness programs and more!Brown University Health is an Equal Opportunity / Affirmative Action employer.
