CRANSTON, R.I. (WLNE) — Cranston Police have arrested a man who they say shot his gun outside a local bar on Phenix Avenue on Sunday.

28-year-old Michael Mancini is charged with:

  • Carrying a pistol without a license
  • Possession of a controlled substance (schedule I-cocaine)
  • Firing in a compact area
  • Disorderly Conduct
  • Resisting arrest
  • Large capacity feeding device prohibited
  • Carrying a weapon while under the influence of liquor or drugs

Cranston police said they were working a detail on the same street when they heard a gunshot go off.

They found Mancini in fight with another individual, which stemmed from an argument at 39 West Restaurant & Lounge during the city’s St. Mary’s Feast.

Police took Mancini to the ground, and according to officials, Mancini refused to let go of his gun.

Police said they were able to subdue Mancini and seize the gun to later find that Mancini was shot in the leg, which was self-inflicted during the fight.

Mancini was taken to the hospital, where he currently remains.

Mancini was also found with cocaine on him when he was arrested.

“I am proud of the actions of all of the officers who immediately took action to physically restrain and remove a firearm from an individual who had just placed
everyone at the venue in danger,” said Colonel Michael J. Winquist.

“The officers who rendered life-saving aid using their tactical medical training and equipment should also be commended. They likely saved the lives of innocent
bystanders, as well as Mr. Mancini’s life,” he added.
