PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — Almost 200 young boys are on a Big Brothers Big Sisters waiting list waiting to get paired with a mentor.
Match support specialists are on the phones interviewing the bigs and littles to ensure they will get along when they match.
One lucky pair are Brian and Logan, who were matched back in 2018.
“I know I was incredibly nervous. I’m gonna get paired up with this kid, I have no idea who they are, what am I supposed to do, what am I supposed to say, how are things supposed to work out? And Big Brothers Big Sisters was there every step of the way.”
Brian said mentoring is a task he thinks others should sign up for, as Logan said it made a huge difference in his life
“Growing up, I did not have a father figure. The closest thing was my uncle and my grandpa.
Brian said that just a few hours a month volunteering equals big rewards for all involved.
“Our job as adults is to make sure the next generation grows up and learns the lessons they need to learn,” he said.
One of the duos favorite memories was going to a Bruins game together.
“We were expecting good seats, but when we were looking at the seats on the chart, they were right behind the ice,” Logan said.

While the current focus is on getting more adult male mentors, female mentors are also being accepted.
