Providence releases traffic changes, parking restrictions for fireworks celebration

PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WLNE) — City officials released a list of traffic changes and parking restrictions for Providence’s fireworks celebration on July 2.

The annual Independence Day Celebration will take place at India Point Park starting at 5:00 p.m.

Officials said the event is free and open to the public, featuring music, more than 25 food trucks, and a beer garden in the park.

The following traffic operations changes were provided by the city:

  • Exit 1A (Old Exit 2), Gano Street, closes at 8 a.m. then reopens at 11 p.m.
  • India Street closed after 8:00 a.m. from Newport Ferry Landing to the I-195 off-ramp.
  • Exit 1A (Old Exit 2) (India Street/Gano Street) off I-195 East will be closed from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 p.m.
  • Customers of the Hilton Garden Inn and Narragansett Beerhall will be allowed to enter from Gano Street.
  • No stopping will be allowed on Route 95 or Route 195.

The following parking restrictions were provided by the city:

  • India St between South Main Street and Gano Street, July 2 from 6 a.m. – 11:59 p.m.
  • George M Cohan BLVD between Brook Street and East Street, July 2 from 6 a.m. – 11:59 p.m.
  • Hope St between George M Cohan and Wickenden Street, July 2 from 6 a.m. – 11:59 p.m.
  • Gano from India to Trenton, both sides, July 2 from 6 a.m. – 11:59 p.m.
