RHODE ISLAND — Rhode Island State Police will host a recruitment open house this Saturday for those interested in a career as a state trooper.
The open house is scheduled for 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Rhode Island State Police Headquarters at 311 Danielson Pike in North Scituate. Potential candidates can speak with troopers from a variety of different specialty units and learn more about a career with the state police. The Rhode Island State Police Museum will also be open.

“We’re looking forward to welcoming potential candidates to meet our troopers and discuss a career with the Rhode Island State Police,” Col. Darnell Weaver said. “We are seeking exceptional candidates with diverse backgrounds to join our job, and this open house will give interested applicants an opportunity to learn more about what we do every day.”
To be considered for the 2025 State Police Training Academy, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements:
- Must be between the ages of 18 and 35
- Must be a high school graduate or hold a General Equivalency Diploma (GED)
- Must be a citizen of the United States.
- Must possess a valid operator’s license prior to starting the Academy or be willing and eligible to obtain one.
- Must meet two vision acuity requirements. Both requirements must be met to qualify.
- Visual acuity of 20/40 (binocular vision) or better without corrective lenses.
- Visual acuity of 20/20 or better with corrective lenses.
- Must not possess a criminal conviction for a felony offense.
During the background investigation, a candidate is evaluated relative to an established set of criteria. Candidates are asked many personal questions, including but not limited to the recency and frequency of traffic citations, at-fault automobile collisions, illegal drug usage, arrests, and convictions.
