Two men found dead at Omega Pond in East Providence

EAST PROVIDENCE, R.I. (WWLP) – Two men were found dead after kayaking on a pond in East Providence on Friday.

According to the East Providence Police Department, 911 calls were reported about two men who did not return home after kayaking on Thursday night. The report stated that the two men were at Omega Pond and have not been heard from since.

Officers and fire crews went searching at the pond for the two men and used a drone to locate one body below the surface of the water. The body was just a short distance from where the two empty kayaks were. A second body was found a short time later.

The bodies were identified as 52-year-old Joseph Fritz of East Providence and 37-year-old Gregory Boerman of Allston. The incident is being investigated and the deaths are not deemed suspicious at this time.
