CRANSTON, R.I. (WPRI) — One man is dead and a teen is seriously injured after an incident in Cranston early Friday morning.
Cranston Police Maj. Todd Patalano said that just after 12:30 a.m., police responded to a report of a 15-year-old who had been stabbed in the back near the intersection of Oak and Trainor streets near Cooney Playground and Hugh B Bain Middle School.
The suspected stabber, identified as 23-year-old Destiny Torres of North Providence, then got into a car being driven by 24-year-old Edwin Torres of Cranston.
According to police, when officers arrived on the scene, they saw Edwin Torres intentionally strike Isaac Vasquez, 21, of Cranston with the vehicle. Vasquez was later pronounced dead at Rhode Island Hospital.
The 15-year-old stabbing victim was transported to Rhode Island Hospital, where he is in stable condition, police said.
Patalano said officers arrested Destiny Torres and Edwin Torres at the scene. Destiny Torres is charged with one count of felony assault with a dangerous weapon, and Edwin Torres faces a murder charge in Vasquez’s death. Both suspects will be arraigned Friday afternoon in Kent County District Court.
“Our thoughts are with the family and friends of Mr. Vasquez during this profoundly difficult time,” Cranston police said in a release.
The incident remains under investigation.
